TAG-A-DOC

An indispensible little Chrome browser extension which will display tags in the header of your Google Docs, Sheets, Slides and Drawings.

Use it to keep track of projects, or remind users when they are handling confidential or sensitive information. With our folders app managing your tags, this extension makes sure everyone sees them. It’s free, so you can grab the code or install the app from the Google Web Store.

Instructions

Once installed, you need to quickly and securely sign in to the extension using your Google account. You can do this by clicking on the extension icon in Chrome (which should be found on the top right, near the end of the address bar). Then click on the sign in button to trigger the authentication process. You will need to grant the extension permission to read your Google Drive files, so it can lookup property tags for your opened documents. In line with our fierce commitment to your privacy, no data from your Google drive is ever sent to us.

Once you have signed in, any tags associated with your Google documents (documents, spreadsheets, presentations or drawings) will be displayed as small badges at the top of your editor window (next to the title of the document). These will match the look and feel of the tags you can edit and manage using our folders app.

You can also tag events in your Google Calendars, which allows for per-client time-tracking or even simple filtered events for displaying on websites. You can edit and manage these calendar tags using our events app.

Screenshot 3

You can always jump straight to editing tags by clicking on the edit icon, which appears as a pencil icon in a black square on both documents and calendar events. If you are not signed in to the extension, a small warning badge will appear instead. We display this to make you aware when you’re not signed in, rather than there being no tags associated with the document.
