Introduction
Once you have crafted your perfect view by filtering the data from sheets, you can then generate a sharable link.
Process
When you click on the Create command (from the Share menu), you will see a dialog similar to the one above. The long link in the center is your sharable link. You can use the Test Link button to do the following things:
- Test Link - Click on this button itself to open the view link in a new tab, so you can test it before sharing. If you need to make any changes, you can return to your view and adjust your filters and column visibilities.
- Copy - On the button drop-down menu, you can click here to copy the view link to your clipboard so that you can copy it straight into an email.
- Details - This will show you the filter data encoded within the link. A view link is essentially a set of instructions, telling the app which sheet to open and what filter to apply to the data.
- Shorten - Using the Google Links Shortener, this will generate a shorter version of your link. This is easier to share (as the link itself is much shorter), and you can also track how many times it has been used!
If you would prefer to use a QR Code, instead of a regular link, then clicking the black button (on the right hand side) will reveal a QR code that can be quickly copied or displayed on a larger screen.
Finally
Each link that you generate will be unique to the filters that you set up before creating it. You can create as many different filters (e.g. for different departments or subjects) for a single sheet as you would like. Each link will work independently of all other ones.
